Recipe: A recipe from my childhood... one that I assume my ancestors picked up in Prussia/Russia on their way to the US. As you will see, there have been some updates :-)

1 bag Rhodes frozen dinner rolls (36)*
3 lbs hamburger
3 lbs shredded cabbage
1 large (or 2 medium) onions, chopped
3 t. salt
1.5 t. ground black pepper
3 T. mustard (yellow or grainy)
1.5 c. shredded American cheese or Velveeta

Thaw rolls and let them rise as package instructions.

Preheat oven to 375 F. Brown hamburger and onion. Add salt, pepper, mustard, and cabbage. Cook about 5 minutes over high heat, or until cabbage has wilted. You may need to drain excess liquid. Add cheese and stir until it disappears into the mixture.

On a clean countertop roll one roll to a circle at least 5inches across. Put about 1/3 c. of filling in the middle, gather the edges and pinch shut. Place on a cookie sheet (pinched side down). Repeat until sheet is full. Bake about 20 minutes or until the tops have started to brown.

Makes 36. These freeze really well (reheat in a microwave). I like to eat mine with ketchup, others like mustard, some non-traditionalists go with hot sauce...

*Or, if you want to go the Grandma route, make your own yeast-based bread or roll dough.
